Well, that’s a great question. For me, a casual guitar player, it was something I didn’t consider much. However, once I started taking guitar lessons my playing time greatly increased. I noticed my arm and shoulder was getting sore the more I played. Even with my old guitar strap and standing my shoulder still got tired. So, I did some research and decided to buy some custom guitar straps.

Finding Custom Guitar Straps

Fortunately, finding quality custom guitar straps isn’t too difficult. There are many different dealers that carry them and you can often find them in local guitar shops as well. The real question is what kind of guitar strap do you want? Custom guitar straps typically come in lined, padded and even unlined styles. You can also choose between genuine leather or vinyl guitar straps depending on your preference.

I’ve personally talked to guitar players that love the look and feel of leather guitar straps. You can find these leather straps in a variety of colors but the most popular are black, brown, and burgundy. For players wanting more cushion, many leather guitar straps come with soft padded foam or lining for additional comfort.

Comfort

A good guitar strap should adjust to your personal length preference. A good range when shopping for custom guitar straps is between 35 to 52 inches long. Most guitar players will be just fine with a strap of this length. Width is another consideration of course. Personally I like a little bit wider strap as I find it more comfortable on my shoulder. Some players prefer a slimmer width as they find it less noticeable.

Another popular option to consider is dual straps. Basically, the design utilizes two straps instead of just one and takes the pressure off of a single shoulder. I haven’t used one myself but I would definitely consider it for long playing sessions. Ergonomics are important and help prevent body injury caused by guitar playing and poor posture.

Design

The guitar strap design is the most fun as you can express your own personal style and it’s what others see. Aside from hundreds of colors and materials, you can find custom one of a kind guitar straps designed by artists and other guitar players. Many retailers will customize straps for you so you can include your name or anything else you like. One popular design option for guitar straps are metal conchos. Metal conchos add nice decoration options to any guitar strap.

Regardless of what strap you choose remember to do your research. While design and color are fun and important be sure and choose a strap that works best for you. Proper fit and feel are extremely important when choosing custom guitar straps as they prevent you from getting over tired and leads to more enjoyable guitar playing.

Custom Guitar Straps

Welcome to custom guitar straps.
